Among the list of topics considered scientifically controversial in these bills are “biological evolution, the chemical origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.” Notably, the list is composed solely of scientific topics that offend a vocal group of religiously-motivated critics of REAL science.
The last topic really gives away the game. Human cloning is certainly a controversial topic, but it’s not a scientific controversy. The question of whether it is possible to clone humans has pretty much been answered. The controversy centers around whether or not humans should be cloned, and this is an moral/ethical question, not a scientific one. To me, it’s laughable that the texts of these so-called “science education” bills reference topics that are not even issues of science.
